For over a decade, Via Nuon has been quietly creating a treasure trove of ethereal, outré folk.

LOW INCOME GLADE

“You remind me of migrants
Working in the Great Depression

& How your shoes have come unlaced!”
Said the Jehovah's Witness,

Offering Faith brochures
& Pamphlets.

“Now there is no need, my dear,
For the Classified Ads.”

In these Low Income Glade discussions.

GENEROSITY

Digging a hole where the policies of orchards
Toss their rotten apples

At the fools whose contribution matters none
In spite of their forced notions

Filling a hole where the armies have neglected
That people have souls

But they only can acknowledge us with guns
To advocate resolution

In the spirit of the age
We rely on obligation

Advertising on front pages
Disarray of abnegating oneself

ANTIPODES

We had met a long time ago
When our limbs were joined

With two heads and a pair of legs to roam
Like a sphere of gold we went

Up & down the globe
Up & down without ego

VICE VERSA

You saved a little girl from the house
That was burning down into a million flames

You know Fate's hand is always knitting
A fabric which will suit your living soul

Meanwhile, please remember
To protect all of the things you love

PUNCH & JUDY RECONNAISSANCE

Passing the time
Laughing away

Crossing the town
Leaving no trail behind

We used to be young
We used to be understanding

Chasing the owls
Tearing their wings

Chasing the owls
Tearing a vulture's wing

These are the things
We do to ourselves

Without knowing

WHITE BEARD

White beard man
You're a prudent scholar

Traveling on the coffee roofs
With your head up a ladder

But in my bones
A pocket knife

So tangled up
Can't recognize

What the Swiss have made

PIECE OF MIRROR

Tell you what we'll do
Meet me by the zoo

In the lime green
Trailer park

The line inside our phone
It's tampered with

& Someone left a trace
A piece of mirror

THROUGH REFLECTION INHABITS

I am the quail you tried to shoot.
Poor dogs! on the avenue making barking sounds

The night watchman competes with ten
Prisoner escapees. Should they slip right through?

You went West. I went East
All of our ironies subsided for a brief moment.

Parasites, intruders from the past colonize
And brood by my window – reflect our myriad lives.

THE HUSBAND

Consciously able to move
Though the injured leg still hurts.

Sat round their table
Discussing the crime that was so long forgot.

The midwife she cries out
“Oh, why are my hands all numb!”

& The chairs would soon creak
From the voice of the evening: “It’s over!”

Is it over? Or just
The start of some day.

CORONATION DAY

In Napoleon’s time
We’d be shackled & bound
By a radiant sea

Wielding swords at the bay
It’s coronation day
For a new sovereign king

Cavalcades near the mosque
Correlating blue knots
Blight the assassin’s contempt

Gleaming outward rings
From artillery fire
Through escape – now we’re free!

Follow me under skies
Quick! Silver-ish eyes
Over sand continents

In a minuscule town
Filled with cylindrical spires
Crabs snatching at feet

Somewhat alluring are streets
Carved in rubble as we
Go sauntering on by

What amazes me!
Is the lightness perceived
When you are in luck

Let us go in the night
We’ll take pleasure & write
A brand new history.
